Who We Are
our story
From Kameeza Coins to Community Power
Agaliawamu Munnomukabi Women’s Group (AMWG) is a cultural, youth-led nonprofit organization with a registered savings and credit union.
Founded on the principle of empowerment, AMWG equips vulnerable women, youth, and children with the tools, resources, safe environments, and knowledge they need to break the cycle of poverty and build thriving communities.
Agaliawamu Munomukabi Women’s Group (AMWG) was born over 20 years ago in the heart of Uganda, not from grand capital or foreign aid, but from the humble strength of everyday women.
A group of housewives, bound by shared struggles and a deep yearning to improve their lives, came together with one simple idea: to pool their kameeza, the small amounts of money left behind by their husbands for daily upkeep. These amounts, though modest, were beyond the reach of traditional banks and financial institutions, which often ignored women and small earners.
What began as a quiet act of resilience grew into a loud and lasting movement.
Today, AMWG operates as a fully registered Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO). We provide access to small, flexible loans and financial training to women and adolescent girls, empowering them to run businesses, pay school fees, invest in farming, and lead dignified lives.
Our members are more than just savers, they are entrepreneurs, leaders, caregivers, and changemakers.
Through financial inclusion, education, and collective action, AMWG strives to transform lives and unlock a brighter future.
